Jeremy Piven takes on the role of Mr Selfridge, alongside an all-star cast including Katherine Kelly, Frances O'Connor, Gregory Fitoussi, Aisling Loftus and Zoe Tapper. Set in London in 1909, Harry Selfridge opened the doors of his lavish department store, on London's famous Oxford Street.

TAKING control of the remote has long inspired domestic power struggles — just who gets to decide what you watch and when?
Whether you're fighting your spouse or family member for the right to play programmer, or railing against the network professionals who play fast and loose with the daily schedule, the pleasure can sometimes be taken out of your favourite leisure activity.
Now, with the rise of streaming video on demand (SVOD) services like Presto — offering a back catalogue of movies and TV series at your fingertips — control is back in the hands of the viewer.
Presto's new TV vault — a joint venture between Foxtel (part-owned by News Corp, publisher of this site) and Seven West Media — opens up a vast library of ad-free TV shows including drama, kids, comedy, factual and reality entertainment, with the audience able to revisit some of the greatest hits they may have missed on first airing.
With more Australians watching an average of 97 hours of TV every month, or three hours a day than ever before (according to OzTam/Neilsen figures), what you watch remains the relevant question rather than when.
Small screen lovers can use the SVOD options to catch up on old favourites, discover hidden treasures often buried by free-to-air television, or add to your TV 'education' by exploring those programs proclaimed by the experts as modern classics.

Remotes at the ready, here's our guide to the best of Presto TV:
IF YOU LIKE: Downton Abbey
WATCH:Mr Selfridge on Presto
IF you like your drama with lashings of velveteen and upstairs/downstairs intrigue, a la Downton Abbey, then UK production Mr Selfridge should fit the bill. Based on the true story of an American entrepreneur who took on London society and set the benchmark in luxury shopping, this has all the elements of a sweeping historical romance. Admittedly, it takes a few episodes for the audience to see star Jeremy Piven as anybody other than his Entourage character Ari Gold. Still, with season three expected in 2015, time is now to invest in this retail romp.

IF YOU LIKE:Love My Way
WATCH:Tangle on Presto
Regarding by most local TV critics as one of the great Australian TV dramas ever produced, Love My Way (also available on Presto) took the early lead in contemporary storytelling for the small screen; while stamping its stars, including Claudia Karvan, Asher Keddie and Ben Mendelsohn (pictured below, left) as talents to be reckoned with. Mendelsohn would back up his performance with an even more compelling turn as Vince Kovac, opposite Justine Clarke, in the under-appreciated series, Tangle (from the makers of Love My Way).

IF YOU LIKE: Breaking Bad
WATCH:The Wire on Presto
Like your TV when it ticks all those viewer advisory warnings — drugs, sex, violence, adult themes? They don't come much grittier than The Wire, routinely voted as the best US drama series ever made. Set on the mean streets of Baltimore, it is credited (along with The Sopranos, also on Presto) as sparking the current writing renaissance in TV, with quality material drawing big name actors to the box. Just as Breaking Bad defined the career of leading man Bryan Cranston, The Wire made stars of Dominic West and Idris Elba. Not to be missed.

IF YOU LIKE:Californication
WATCH: Satisfaction on Presto
The name alone deserved a prize, but the sexy substance to US comedy-drama, Californication (also available on Presto)won this plenty of plaudits. Starring David Duchovny as an alcoholic author who tries to deal with writer's block with sex, drugs and rock and roll, each episode is a wicked way to spend an hour. Enter Foxtel's original production, Satisfaction, set in an up-market city brothel, which follows the lives of five high class escorts and their manager. It won its leading lady, Allison Whyte a Logie and an ASTRA. A rare Australian gem to rediscover.

IF YOU LIKE:Broadchurch
WATCH:The Killing Field on Presto
No one does a whodunit murder mystery quite like the Brits, right? Well the Scandinavians have sure given it a crack of late, leading the 'Nordic noir' trend for TV thrillers like The Bridge, Borgen and The Killing. While UK audiences couldn't get enough of these shows, Broadchurch (starring former Dr Who David Tennant) hit a winner for the home team. Not to be left behind, Rebecca Gibney showed off her acting and producing chops in our take on the genre in The Killing Field (set to be a spin-off series, Winter, on Seven).
