SYRIA has agreed to allow the UN to visit the site of last week's alleged chemical attacks.
"An agreement was concluded today (Sunday) in Damascus between the Syrian government and the United Nations during the visit of the UN high representative for disarmament, Angela Kane, to allow the UN team lead by professor Aake Sellstroem to investigate allegations of chemical weapons use in Damascus province," a ministry statement said.
The agreement "is effective immediately," it added.
State TV also said in a statement the two sides are working to set the date and time of the visit to the agreed upon locations outside Damascus purportedly hit by chemical agents on August 22.
The purported chemical attack that activists say killed hundreds of civilians in rebel-held areas around Damascus took place on Wednesday, August 21.

The United States says there's very little doubt Syrian forces used chemical weapons on civilians and has dismissed an offer by Damascus for a UN team to view the attack site.
Yesterday's comments mark a significant escalation of a showdown over the horrific attack which killed 13-hundred people last week, at a time when Washington appeared to be positioning itself for possible military action.
Officials say President Barack Obama, who held crisis talks on Saturday with top aides, will make an informed decision about how to respond to an indiscriminate chemical weapons attack.
One has told Agence France-Presse that based on the reported number of victims and their symptoms, and US and foreign intelligence, there's very little doubt that a chemical weapon was used by the Syrian regime against civilians in this incident.
