A MELBOURNE barrister who has been leading a secret double life swapping her wig and gown for hot pants looks set to break into the UK's Top 10 Club charts.

Bowie Jane has taken the UK by storm, with her debut single Luv Bomb racing up the charts this week, reaching No.11 on the commercial pop Top 30.

It puts the 27-year-old criminal barrister in reach of major acts Justin Timberlake, Ke$ha and One Direction in her quest to become Australia's next big thing.

The sudden success has lifted the lid on a four-year secret Jane has kept from the legal fraternity so she would be taken seriously in the courtroom.

She has worn her costume under her legal robes and cut meetings short to race to gigs as she tries to juggle the two jobs.

"I was gigging six nights a week for a while. No one knew what I was doing," she said.

While her parallel lives are split across two continents - she spends six months a year in Melbourne and London - Jane said sometimes her worlds did collide.

"The longer I can keep the two jobs separate from each other the better," Jane said yesterday.

She said she once had to leave work early to make a gig on the main stage at the Australian Open.

Jane said she didn't want clients thinking they had hired someone who wasn't serious about the law. She said she loved the law, but music had always been her driving passion. She hoped to make a career out of it.

"My parents ... were adamant I set my life up properly, go to university and get a degree," she said.

After graduating from Deakin University with a double degree in law and commerce, Jane set her sights on a music career.

She said she had been blown away by her sudden success in the UK, with her self-written debut single getting airplay on 78 British radio stations.

"I was getting a lot of interest over there so decided to pursue the music industry there," she said. "Now I'm hoping Australia gets on board."
