- TELL US: What do you think of this dress code crackdown?
A SHORT leg is OK in cricket, but if you've got perfect pins the South Australian Cricket Association doesn't want to see them.
Girls, if you are heading to the Twenty20 Big Bash at Adelaide Oval tonight, a word of advice - choose your outfit carefully.
The state's cricket guardians are cracking down on their members' dress code and it is causing a kerfuffle at the turnstiles.
At last week's Adelaide Strikers match, SACA members told the Sunday Mail that oval security staff had warned dozens of women at entrances about the hem length of their clothes.
Women in thigh-high skirts, dresses and shorts were being subjected to the "fingertip test".
Security staff asked targeted female members to hold their arms to their sides, with their hands flat to their thighs.
If the hem of the dress, skirt or shorts was higher than the tip of their fingers, they were warned about their dress choice or even refused entry.
A SACA spokeswoman said a "handful of members" had been refused entry so far this season due to breaches of the dress code.
"Some members were advised by female security on entry that their clothing, skirts or shorts had breached the dress code, and were asked to reconsider their outfit before attending the next match," she said.
The spokeswoman said security staff were briefed on which clothing was appropriate at the start of the season. She refused to comment on the "hand test".
SACA member Sarah Connell, 25, of Norwood, said the dress code was confusing.
"There seem to be different interpretations of what is mid-thigh - that's leading to some confusion," she said.
Ms Connell said she was warned about the length of her dress, made by one of Australia's top designers, at the Adelaide Test against South Africa in November.
"A dress code is important and is generally supported by younger members, but I think the issue is one of interpretation," she said.
Samantha Nobes, 25, of Sydney, who has been a SACA member for six years, said the dress code was inconsistent.
"I have been with friends before who have been told to hold down their dress as they walk in so it looks longer," she said.
"Yet once you get into the members area, there are always 20-something females wearing short skirts and shorts."
This is not the first time the SACA has been choosy. In 2004, Test opener Matthew Hayden's pregnant wife, Kellie, was forced to change after the strapless top she was wearing was deemed inappropriate.
