Police have uncovered one of South Sydney's prized NRL premiership rings during a drug bust in Darwin.

THERE'S the former bikini model, a heavily tattooed bikie, a South Sydney Harbour cruise, a drug raid — and (gulp) the NRL integrity unit.

If all eyes were on the start of South Sydney's NRL title defence last night at Suncorp Stadium, all the talk during the day was how a 2014 premiership ring ended up being found in a Darwin drug raid.

Acting Commander Tony Fuller was last night still baffled how the prized ring had ended up in the Top End.

"It's a mystery to us, and it's a mystery why it hasn't been reported,'' Fuller said.

"We just want to know who owns the ring.''

Twenty rings made by Zed N Zed Jewellers on behalf of the NRL were presented on grand final day to the 17 players as well as the coach, chairman and CEO.

Souths ordered more rings for the players who featured during the club's season — but not in the decider against the Bulldogs — as well as a number of sponsors.

Dylan Walker was the only player known to have lost his ring, which happened while he celebrated on Sydney Harbour in October.

Fuller said that Walker was interviewed by NSW police on their behalf last month, and his story more than checked out.

So now the search for the owner continues.

The ring was found during a raid on Anthony Orrell's home outside the Darwin CBD last month, where police will allege they also discovered steroids, methamphetamine, MDMA, cannabis and a drug pipe.

Orrell, 31, appeared in the local publication NT News a couple of years ago after he tried to evade police and landed headfirst in manure, earning him the nickname "The Poogitive".

A suspected member of the Rebels bikie gang, Orrell was represented by lawyer Michael Burrows, who yesterday claimed his client didn't suspect the ring was stolen.

Burrows also refused to comment on where the premiership ring came from.

Co-accused Asher De Rouffignac, 26, who once appeared on page three of the NT News in a swimsuit, is also expected to contest the charges.

Orrell and de Rouffignac were released on bail, and will reappear in court on April 17.

Fuller said that he had recently contacted the NRL Integrity Unit to help find the ring's owner.

Souths reported back to the NRL integrity unit that all rings had been accounted for.

They did something similar when first reporting about the arrests of players John Sutton and Luke Burgess in a pre-season incident in Arizona.
