HANDS shaking, tears rolling down her face, 38-year-old Jill Curry faced her former co-workers and apologised.

"I exposed you guys to danger that I didn't even think about," she told the group of sheriff's deputies, whom she once shared a job with.

"I feel nothing but regret and sadness, and I'm so sorry."

Yesterday, Curry was sentenced to more than four years in prison for having sex with a convicted rapist in a closet at Washington County Jail in Oregon.

Curry, a civilian worker for the prison at the time, would push a button that would unlock the cell door of 25-year-old gang member Jeng-Li Delgado-Galban, reports The Oregonian.

At least thirteen times last year, she made a safe passageway for Delgado-Galba from his maximum security cell to a supply closet, where the two would meet and have sex.

Curry would wait for the sheriff's deputy to go out for lunch, leaving her alone in the control room. It was at this time that she would strike.

She was married to a sheriff's deputy at the time but they have since divorced.

"My children, they are so perfect," she said in her first statement since her arrest.

"And in return I just devastated their lives. I disappointed and embarrassed them."

Last month Curry pleaded guilty to 28 counts of first and second degree custodial sexual misconduct.

Her defence team argued Curry's marriage was falling apart, and she fell victim to Delgado-Galban's advances during the turmoil, but judge Charles Bailey called out Curry's crocodile tears.

"I find that stupid and ludicrous," he said.

"Your hedonistic pleasures were more important to you than everybody you just mentioned."

Curry's sexscapades unravelled when on July 8 last year, the Multnomah County Sheriff's Office received a tip-off from a caller. She was placed on administrative leave that same day. She had been working with the Sheriff's Office since 2004.

Delgado-Galban is doing time after breaking into a woman's apartment and raping her in 2009.

A second jail staffer, Brett Robinson, will face trial next month on the same charges with Delgado-Galban.
