‘Terrorist sleeper cells are in US’

THE former head of the US Senate Intelligence Committee said she believes there are terrorist sleeper cells in the US waiting to carry out a Paris-style attack.

Democrat Senator Dianne Feinstein made the comments on CNN while attacking the US visa waiver program which allows foreign nationals from 38 countries to enter the US for up to 90 days without a visa.

She noted that those who carried out the attacks on the Charlie Hebdo offices and a kosher supermarket in Paris last week could have been accepted for entry into the US, calling the visa waiver program "the Achilles' heel of America".

"They can come back from training, they go through a visa waiver country, and they come into this country," Senator Feinstein said. "We have a big problem here."

"I think there are sleeper cells, not only in France, but certainly in other countries, and, yes, even in our own," Feinstein said. "So I think this calls for vigilance. It calls for seeing that the national security organisations of our country — the intelligence community — is funded fully, is directed ably, is cooperating with ... British intelligence, French intelligence, German intelligence, as we do."

The Washington Times reported a Rasmussen poll from Sunday which found that 65 per cent of Americans believe that an attack on 'those critical of Islam' in the US will occur over the next year.

It comes as the US military's Central Command in Florida appeared to have been hacked by ISIS sympathisers - posting threatening messages against troops.

"American soldiers, we are coming, watch your back," one of them posted on Twitter. "We won't stop! We know everything about you, your wives and children."
