IT was nearly a kiss of death.
The debut of "Mobile Mistletoe" at US restaurant chain TGI Friday's got messy at a Brooklyn location when an out-of-control drone hit a veteran photographer in the face with its blades.
"I have covered active crime scenes, terrorist strikes, etc. and survived them all, unscathed," Georgine Benvenuto, who was on assignment for the Brooklyn Daily Eagle, wrote on her personal Facebook page.
"The most dangerous assignment to date was covering this drone story."
TGI Friday's launched the promotion in select stores across the country hoping to spread some extra holiday cheer just in time for the holidays.
The drones "hover over couples and when they kiss under the floating mistletoe, they are awarded special gift cards to continue their holiday merriment," according to a press release.
But instead of spreading holiday cheer, it caused holiday tears.
Benvenuto toldThe Post the drone's operator, David Quiones, was landing his toy drone on her colleague's hand when it started spinning out of control.
"He has this thing flying onto her hand and she flinched," the 51-year-old photographer said, adding that she still had visible injuries Monday.
"She jerked her hand and then everything was still spinning on it."
The 15-centimetre drone flew straight at her face, taking off skin on the tip of her nose, cutting her chin and snarling her hair.
"It's a good thing that didn't hit my eye. That's my livelihood, as a photographer," she said.
Benvenuto said Quiones kept trying to tell her "it wasn't a big deal," but she fired back, "What do you mean? I'm bleeding."

Benvenuto was snapping a photo of a couple kissing when she was attacked.
"I was told it would not cut me, well parents beware, this thing cut off skin on my nose, cut my chin, and got caught in my hair, spinning & spinning. Not a toy I would buy for a child this year or any year," she wrote.
A spokeswoman for the restaurant chain said two New York TGI Friday's featured the Mobile Mistletoe last week, Westbury on Dec. 3 and Brooklyn on Dec. 4.
She noted that Thursday's "demonstration" was just a photo op that took a turn for the worse.
""This was an isolated event during a demonstration for the reporter and photographer only, given by the licensed operator of the drone during the last day of this particular promotion," she said.
"Of course, safety is our first priority and we are sorry that this isolated incident occurred."
Benvenuto said she's not going to pursue any legal action against TGI Friday's, but thinks it should reconsider any promos involving blade-wielding drones in the future.
"I didn't get stitches, but skin was taken off my face. and something bad very bad could have happened," she said.
