MARK Wildman wants to know how his little boy Xavier died.

The heartbroken dad has spent 16 months believing his three-year-old boy died of complications from a virus, but yesterday discovered police were investigating the death as a homicide.

MURDER FEAR: Police probing child deaths

"I just want to know what happened to my son … He was my little buddy," he said.

Xavier died 16 months ago after falling ill suddenly from a suspected virus.

Police yesterday revealed they were investigating a possible house of horrors at Morayfield, north of Brisbane, where two children had died and two were almost burnt to death in a fire in the past 16 months.

Xavier's death was the first incident in July 2013. Mr Wildman was not living with his son at the time.

Police investigating the murder of two children and the attempted murder of two further children at Morayfield have released a video as part of the investigation in order to bring this investigation to a close.

A second child — a seven-month-old baby boy — died in the house on September 27 this year. Two other older children, aged 9 and 11, had their escape from their burning bedroom blocked in a house fire earlier this year.

Acting Detective Superintendent Damien Hansen said the investigation escalated from police "linking all three incidents".

"It might be something more than a coincidence," Det Supt Hansen said.

"(They were) initially thought to be SIDS deaths."

Police yesterday detailed how authorities had reconstructed the burning bedroom scene to establish if the children had been trapped.

"Through our investigations with Queensland Fire and Rescue ... forensically we are able to say the fire was deliberately lit," Det Supt Hansen said.

"The children couldn't open the door at the time … (they) were inside the room and could not exit the room."

He said the homicide squad was involved and the Coroner had also agreed to reinvestigate the deaths as suspicious.

Mr Wildman — who separated from the boy's mother prior to Xavier's death — last night pleaded for information from police.

"Xavier was a really healthy little boy," Mr Wildman told The Courier-Mail.

"When I got the call that night he was at the hospital, something didn't add up — he was a healthy three-year-old boy.

"He was my first son. Every man has dreams about having a little boy, going to the tip together, looking at machines and taking him I the football.

"We used to go to the duck ponds and feed the ducks."

For legal reasons, The Courier-Mail cannot identify any of the other children involved.

However, the mother and her current partner and their extended families yesterday denied any involvement in the deaths or fire.

The mother's current partner said the fire was minor and they did not need to contact the fire department to help extinguish the blaze. He said he was still grieving the loss of his seven-month-old child.

"As a result of Xavier's passing we have the Coroner's report saying it was myocarditis, most likely caused due to the chest infection, the viral infection that attacked his heart," he said. "The fire was containable. You don't call up a fire brigade and say 'I have a fire' that's containable.

"And then with (the baby) passing away, we don't know what has happened."

He said his mother, who previously worked in aged care, was a beautiful kind-hearted person.

"I highly believe my mother would not be capable of killing anything," he said.

"I'm alive, my brothers and sisters are alive, my nephews are alive, the foster kids are fine."

Police said the parents had been co-operative.

"They are all from the same family, with all the incidents occurring at the same home," he said.
