A RYANAIR plane has had part of its wing torn off after colliding with another of the airline's jets at Dublin Airport.

An airline spokeswoman said the two Boeing 737s were taxiing on the runway on Tuesday morning local time, when the "winglet" of one scraped against the tail of the

other.

Photos taken by passengers show part of the wing on one lodged in the tail of the other.

No injuries were reported although there were flight delays.

The Irish Aviation Authority said it was investigating.

"The Air Accident Investigation Unit of the Department of Transport, Tourism and Sport has been notified and will conduct a further investigation," a spokesman told The Independent.

Ryanair apologised for the incident but played down any risk to passengers, saying: "There was no impact on customers on board."

Travellers were moved to a replacement plane.
