Mix-up ... reports of Justin Priest's demise were greatly exaggerated. Picture: AP Photo/The Alaska Dispatch News, Bill Roth Source: AP
AN ALASKIN couple devastated after officials told them their son had been killed in a car crash got the happy shock of their lives when they drove to his home — and he answered the door.
State troopers mistakenly told the parents of Justin Priest, 29, that he had died in a traffic accident in Juneau, the Alaska Dispatch News reported.
But when Jay and Karen Priest drove to their son's South Anchorage home to break the tragic news to his girlfriend early on Thursday, their bearded offspring came to the door instead.
"Justin?" his dad shouted. "It's Justin! Praise Jesus, we thought you were dead!"
The mix-up occurred because the actual accident victim had the same first and last name as their son — but with a different age, birth date and middle name.
"I was shocked and astonished and had to keep grabbing him and hugging him," Jay told the newspaper. "I never cried so much in all my life."
