AN AIR France plane was isolated at Madrid's airport because of a suspected Ebola case after a passenger was reported to have a fever and shivers, officials say.
The passenger, who had travelled from Lagos, Nigeria, was taken by ambulance to an unspecified hospital in Madrid overnight but the rest of the passengers were allowed to leave the plane as normal, Air France said in a statement.
The flight, carrying as many as 183 people, arrived in Madrid from Paris, the company said. The plane was taken to a special area of the airport.
A Spanish Health Ministry spokeswoman said authorities were treating it as a suspected Ebola case. The official spoke on condition of anonymity in keeping with the regulations of her office.
Meanwhile, Danish authorities were also testing a medical worker for Ebola from Médecins Sans Frontières who had been in West Africa.
The World Health Organisation said the death toll from the Ebola crisis will rise to more than 4500 lives this week from among 9000 people infected by the deadly disease.
Dr. Isabelle Nuttall, director of the WHO's global capacities, alert and response, said new numbers show the outbreak is still hitting health workers hard, with 2700 infected and 236 dead, mainly because Ebola victims are most contagious around the time they die.
