JULIA Gillard burst into tears when she read a media report saying Kevin Rudd no longer trusted her word — then knifed him just hours later.
In a bizarre admission, Ms Gillard revealed she started crying because her boss was worried about her loyalty, but then drew an "uprising" of Labor MPs that evening.

Ms Gillard's tell-all interview to Ray Martin on Channel 9 glazed over much of the critical issues of her government as she plugged her book.
Ms Gillard said she was so saddened by the report that she'd lost Mr Rudd's trust, she cried when she went to Labor statesman John Faulkner.

"I'd felt like I'd done everything I possibly could to help and support and prop Kevin up and there had already, in the days before, been some signs that, you know, now I was being viewed with suspicion and I just cried,'' she said.
"I felt it was just so unfair."

Mr Rudd was right to be suspicious. Ms Gillard described her rise to the nation's top job as an uprising.
"I asked Kevin for a ballot,'' she said.

"By the time I got back to my office it was filling with supporters and that, I'd have to say, just had the sense of, kind of you know, almost uprising about it. People, people wanted change.''
That's my fault, you know, sort of a dumb, dumb error, rookie error maybe
In a sign of how shambolic the government had become, Ms Gillard admitted she put Mr Rudd in one of the nation's most crucial jobs — Foreign Minister — only to stop leaks against her.
"I had no choice,'' she said.

"I had to stop the leaks and it was, you know, made abundantly clear to me that the kinds of things we'd seen with the leaks to Laurie Oakes were just going to keep happening."
Ms Gillard's infamous plan to unleash the "real Julia" in the 2010 campaign, indicating she had put on an act, was described as one of her biggest mistakes.
"That's my fault, you know, sort of a dumb, dumb error, rookie error maybe,'' she said.
"I mean I wasn't a rookie in politics. I was a rookie at being Prime Minister. And I'd felt like our campaigning style wasn't, you know, letting me get out and about enough. I did feel sort of confined by it."
