THE AFL is set to investigate claims by a Dockers fan that Fremantle coach Ross Lyon grabbed him during an incident at three-quarter time in the team's first qualifying final loss to Sydney at ANZ Stadium on Saturday.
Lyon clashed with the man, 25-year-old Freo supporter David Soale, as he was coming down from the coach's box to deliver his address to the players.

"He was coming down the stairs. He walked past and I just said, 'Come on Rossy, let's do it mate', something to that effect," Mr Soale said.
Mr Soale claims that after he patted Lyon on the back, Lyon turned around and got physical.
"He said, 'Do not f--ken touch me c--t''," he said.
Originally from Perth, Mr Soale moved to Sydney about a year ago. He said he had supported the Dockers for most of his life.
"My granddad took me to my first game when I was about 10," he said.
Mr Soale said the incident hadn't dampened his passion for the team, but it had changed his opinion of their coach.
"It was pretty full on. Even the security came up and said, 'Mate don't worry about it hey. He was just totally out of line'."
Fremantle coach Ross Lyon addresses the mediua following his side's 93-69 loss to the Sydney Swans.
Mr Soale said he had no plans to take the matter further at this stage.
After the game, Lyon told media he had been "hit'' on the back.
"Someone hit me on the back and I responded. That was about the size of it,'' he said. "I felt some force to my back. I turned around and said 'please don't do that'.''
The Sydney Swans have earned a week off and a home preliminary final after defeating Fremantle 93-69 at ANZ Stadium.
AFL spokesman Patrick Keane said the incident was likely to be followed up. Lyon could be interviewed by the AFL tomorrow.
Lyon said he did not normally feel threatened walking past the crowd.
"It's never an issue, but you only need one,'' he said.
"It's a safe environment. You've got security, sometimes things happen.''
ANZ Stadium spokesman Arthur Stanley said the security measures were well and truly adequate.
"It was an isolated incident and all codes are happy with the security arrangements for coaches," Stanley said.
