PLUS-sized women are taking to social media to flaunt their curves, posting photos of themselves proudly wearing bikinis and posting their selfies to Instagram with the hashtag #fatkini.
The latest trend has overweight women refusing to hide behind dowdy one-piece swimsuits, and instead taking to the beach and pool in bright bikinis — no matter what people say.
The movement aims to encourage self-acceptance and promote beauty and confident for all shapes and sizes.
The term 'fatkini' is largely credited to plus-sized fashion blogger-turned-swimwear designer Gabi Fresh, who first posted her glamorous bikini pictures in 2012.

But with summer hitting the northern hemisphere, the trend has exploded, along with the hashtag ##losehatenotweight.
Some of the selfies are taken by women who are wearing a bikini for the first time.
The movement has been backed by plus-sized fashion bloggers, who say retailers have finally started selling bikinis in larger sizes.

"There's not only this sense that I'm transgressing this rule that fat girls don't wear bikinis," fashion blogger Tovar, who created the #losehatenotweight hashtag told ColorLines.com.
"There's this corporeal experience of the wind and sun on my stomach. That feeling is not only novel and exhilarating but also political."
She describes being moved to tears the first time she saw larger bikini sizes in US retailer Forever 21 last year.
"I remember walking in and seeing a two-piece bathing suit in the plus-size section and I started crying. It just became this symbol of a shift, it was so symbolic and meaningful."

Uniting on social media can help change perceptions about beauty, and even show retailers there is a market for fashionable, larger sizes.
Marie Denee, founder of blog Curvy Fashionista, says "Social media allows for these women to congregate, interact with each other."
"They're like, 'Oh you like bikinis? Let's demand our bikinis!"
