Primetime Emmy nominees announced

BREAKING Bad, House of Cards, Downton Abbey, Game of Thrones: the nominees for the 66th Primetime Emmy Awards are shaping up as a contest between the established heavy hitters of the small screen.

But in among the established names, a few new arrivals have been nominated, including Lizzie Caplan for her role in Masters of Sex and Taylor Schilling for Orange is the New Black.

In the comedy category, Modern Family will be seeking its fifth award, but faces tough competition from a field that includes The Big Bang Theory, Louis, Orange Is The New Black, Silicon Valley and Veep.

The nominations were announced by Mindy Kaling from The Office and talk show host Carson Daly in a ceremony that was broadcast live on the web.

The nominations cover work first broadcast between June 1 last year and May 31 this year.

The 66th Annual Primetime Emmy Awards will be hosted by Saturday Night Live alumnus Seth Meyers and will be held at the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles on August 25.
