12.25am - POOLSIDE WARDROBE 'BOOB' AVERTED
IT could have been a moment to rival the Queen selfie for global media attention, but a teammate's quick-thinking helped Brittany Elmslie to avoid becoming the social media star of the Games.
Alarm bells were ringing for rising star Elmslie, 20, when her swimsuit straps snapped as she strode to the starting blocks for her 50m butterfly heat.
Teammate Madeline Groves hastily tied them together with a hairband but Elmslie feared the worst as she hit the water.

"It could have gone one of two ways - my suit falling off and boobs hanging out or it holds together and we are all good," she laughed.
Thankfully it was the latter.
The London Olympic gold medallist (26.18 seconds) overcame the wardrobe malfunction to qualify second fastest for Saturday night's 50m semi-finals.

12am — THE SUPERSTAR HAS LANDED
THE Games' only bona fide superstar Usain Bolt has made his first appearance in Glasgow, addressing a packed media conference and dealing with the full spectrum of queries.
Channel 10 reporter and self-confessed "fan" Roz Kelly wanted a selfie with him (drawing a social media shellacking in the process), while a UK Channel 4 reporter asked him to comment on the Gaza situation.
The affable Jamaican played both requests with the straight bat of a seasoned media performer.

For months the fastest man in the world had kept organisers hanging with injuries limiting his appearances on the track this year, Scott Gullan writes.
The guessing game finally ended last month when he confirmed he would be making an appearance for Jamaica's 4x100m relay.
"For me it was very important (to be here)," Bolt said. "I will be running in the heats of the relay because I need the runs, this is my first run for the season so I really need to get it going."
His expectation of his first visit of Glasgow? "A lot of rain maybe and seeing a lot of kilts around the place."

11.10pm — TRIATHLON TEAM BATTLES TO BRONZE
A BRILLIANT final 200m by Ryan Bailie has won Australia the bronze medal in the mixed team triathlon relay.
Bailie burned off his Canadian opponent in the final stages of the 1.6km run leg to snare a berth on the podium next to England and South Africa.
As expected England dominated the event — the men's and women's individual gold medallists from Monday were their final two competitors — with Alistair Brownlee again taking his time to stroll down the final straight for an emphatic victory.
Australia recovered after a slow start from Emma Moffat with Aaron Royle making up ground before Emma Jackson pulled them into medal contention.

10.50pm — AUSSIES CRUISE INTO SEVENS FINALS
AUSTRALIA has booked its spot in the finals of the sevens on Sunday after cruising through their second pool match against Uganda, Iain Payten writes.
The seven-try 43-5 victory resembled Australia's first big victory over Sri Lanka but it was enough to ensure Ed Jenkins' side will line up in the quarter-finals, regardless of the result of the last pool match with England.
Speed merchant Ed Jeloudev ran in four tries with some nice footwork, and Jesse Parahi grabbed a pair with trademark tenacity.
Just how well the Aussies are placed ahead of the serious stuff tomorrow remains hard to tell, with courageous but limited defence coming the other way.

10.45pm — MEARES AND MORTON SAFELY THROUGH TO SEMIS
ANNA Meares and Stephanie Morton have progressed to the semi-finals of the women's sprint at the Sir Chris Hoy Velodrome, Reece Homfray writes.
Morton led from start to finish in her quarter-final rounds against England's Danni Khan and Meares had too much class for Scotland's Jenny Davis.
They will return to the track overnight in a bid to make tomorrow's gold medal ride-off.

9.50pm — SHOOTER BAGS OUR FIRST GOLD OF DAY 3
DANIEL Repacholi has secured the first Aussie gold of the day in the 10m air pistol discipline at Carnoustie, Jon Ralph writes.
Cessnock rifle range shooter Repacholi held off Indian Prakash Nanjappa to seize his second Commonwealth Games gold, nailing bullseyes at will to push to a 2.1 point lead with three shots remaining.
Then with only Repacholi and Nanjappa remaining as the finalists were whittled down, Repacholi tried to let the Indian in.

The 202cm giant wavered with one of his first poor shots of the final — a 9.3 point shot a mile from the bullseye.
But with his last of 20 shots his bullet flow close to the target to hand him his victory after gold and silver in the Melbourne 2006 Commonwealth Games and bronze in Delhi.

9.30pm — MISSILE ROCKETS TO FAVOURITISM IN 100m FREE
JAMES Magnussen has warned he has another gear to find as he rocketed to favouritism for the 100m freestyle with a blazing display in the heats, Todd Balym writes.
Magnussen had tried to play the underdog card leading into these Games, palming off the pressure onto rival Cameron McEvoy, but their relay splits and heat times indicate it is clearly the world champion Magnussen who is the man to beat.
The 23-year-old cruised to a dominant heat win in 48.47s, almost a full second clear of McEvoy who coasted home in 49.46s.

8.45pm — AUSSIE FOX BREAKS OWN WORLD RECORD
AUSTRALIA'S Daniel Fox has lowered his own world record in the heats of the para-sport 200m freestyle.
Fox stopped the clock in 1:57.16, just over half a second quicker than his previous best time from the selection trials in April.
Fox, Mitchell Kilduff (2:01.17) and Josh Alford (2:03.99) will all race in the final again tonight.
Australian pair Josh Beaver and Ben Treffers tied as second fastest qualifiers for the 50m backstroke semi-finals in 25.28s while 100m silver medallist Mitch Larkin also progressed to the final 16 in seventh place in 25.53s.
Australia's Brittany Elmslie overcome a split swimsuit to qualify second fastest in the 50m butterfly heats in 26.18s.
Elmslie's suit broke just prior to the race, with her teammate Madeline Groves doing some quick repairs in the marshalling room to ensure she could still race.
Groves qualified ninth in 26.74s with Alicia Coutts fourth in 26.43s.

8.35pm — MORTON SMASHES MEARES RECORD
EMERGING Aussie star Stephanie Morton has broken Anna Meares' Commonwealth Games record — and beaten the dual Olympic gold medallist in the process of qualifying fastest for the women's sprint in Glasgow today, Reece Homfray writes.
Morton, 23, was the only woman in the field of 13 riders to go under 11 seconds when she clocked 10.984 in the flying 200m at the Sir Chris Hoy Velodrome to better Meares' previous best of 11.140.
Meares was second fastest in qualifying with 11.171 from England's Jess Varnish with 11.279.
Quarter and semi-finals will be held this afternoon and the medal rides are scheduled for tomorrow.
8.25pm — CLARK SCORES HAT-TRICK IN SEVENS
YOUNG gun Cameron Clark bagged a hat-trick as the Aussie sevens side opened up their Commonwealth Games with a powerful 62-7 win over Sri Lanka, Iain Payten writes.
It was a one-sided affair for the Australians as they ran in 10 tries in the second game of the tournament at Ibrox Stadium, including three directly from the regathering of kick offs.
Clark scored the first and last tries of the match in his haul, and James Stannard (2), Pama Fou, Con Foley, Jesse Parahi, Tom Lucas and Greg Jeloudev also crossed the stripe.

Sri Lanka were badly outclassed and at one point the big Glasgow crowd took to cheering each tackle. The noise levels went through the roof when tiny Sandun Herath scored a try midway through the second half to get the minnow nation on the scoreboard.
Australia will play Uganda in their next pool match.
Earlier, New Zealand registered a comfortable 39-0 victory over Canada in the first match of the day.
8.05pm — ROOKIE McKEOWN PROGRESSES TO FINAL
ROOKIE Taylor McKeown has qualified third fastest for tonight's 200m breaststroke final in 2:26.38 as three Australians progressed to the medal race, Todd Balym writes.
McKeown used her fast finish to swim past teammate Sally Hunter, who qualified in fourth in 2:26.69 while Tessa Wallace was sixth fastest into the final in 2:27.77.
Earlier, Australia's three 200m butterflyers all reached the final with rookie Mitch Pratt (1:57.95) fourth, Daniel Tranter (1:58.30) sixth and Grant Irvine (1:58.39) in seventh.

7.55pm — DIAMONDS BACK FROM BRINK IN THRILLER
AUSTRALIA'S Diamonds have dragged their gold medal hopes back from the brink with a stunning comeback against netball rival England, Jon Ralph writes.
England had threatened to "take down" one of netball's superpowers and looked certain to inflict a defeat that would have thrust Australia into a semi-final against arch-rival New Zealand.
Australied trailed at every break, taking a three-goal deficit into the last quarter.
But they finally locked the game up at 42 all with nine minutes left, with scores still level with just a minute left.
But just as Australia looked in mortal danger English shooter Joanne Harten missed a shot under the post, allowing the Diamonds to spirit the ball to Caitlin Bassett who goaled with just 15 seconds left.
