SOME consider him the prime suspect behind aviation's greatest mystery, but the family of MH370 pilot Captain Zaharie Ahmad Shah have never wavered in their belief in him.
Today marks 100 days since MH370 disappeared with 239 aboard, and in that time Zaharie has been linked to a mystery "other woman" and even accused of using his at home flight simulator to plot a plane crash in an act of domestic terrorism to support controversial Malaysian opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim.
MH370: No accident, say authors
But none of this is true, say his family in an exclusive interview, and there are several good reasons why.
"There are two reasons for Arie to still be alive. This is his best friend, this grandson of his," says Zaharie's brother in law, Asuad Khan, pointing to a photograph of five-year-old Ahmad Naufal Khan. "He was devoted to the little boy."
"And this is the other reason," he says, showing a photograph of Capt Zaharie and his daughter Aishah.
"That's the reasons he would want to continue living."

Describing him as a passionate pilot who devoted his life to Malaysia Airlines, which he joined in 1981, the family also spoke of an ordinary dad who was fun to be around, loved a joke, fixing things and cooking.
Family photographs show the pilot and his grandson playing with toys, jumping on a trampoline, blowing bubbles and wearing masks.
Mr Khan speaks on behalf of the family. He says his sister Faizah Khanum is not yet ready to speak publicly, especially with no idea of where the plane ended up.
Mrs Khanum has moved out of the home she and Capt Zaharie shared in Shah Alam and she is currently living with their younger son and daughter in their second home in Subang, a suburb of Kuala Lumpur.

Mr Khan says the home in Shah Alam holds too many memories for his sister and too much of it reminds her of Arie.
"She can't bear to be there right now because there are too much memories. She said she can't stay there," Mr Khan said.
She is coping outwardly.
"You know someone since childhood. You have been married to that person for 30 years and suddenly he disappears without a trace. How do you feel if that happens? That's how she is feeling. But life goes on," Mr Khan said. "When she is with us, she is okay. When she is alone, that is the hard time."
Mr Khan said the couple's daughter, Aishah, who was living in Melbourne at he time, came back to Kuala Lumpur as soon as the plane disappeared. She has since gone to Australia to pack up her things and returned to her family to live and work.

"She was Daddy's girl," he says of her relationship with her father. They spoke regularly on Skype.
Mr Khan keeps his brother-in-law's Whats App profile, in the name Arie, on his phone. It was last active about 7pm on March 7, the night the flight left Kuala Lumpur.
The couple met as teenagers. Their family homes were close together in Penang and Mr Khan was three years behind Capt Zaharie. Mr Khan remembers the aspiring pilot was nice to him despite being older. He later discovered he was courting his sister.

Addressing the rumours that have circulated since day one he says there were no marital problems and that his brother-in-law was not a fanatical supporter of Opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim. Despite reports to contrary he said Zaharie did not attend Anwar's adverse court verdict the day before the flight and was not incensed by the verdict.
"He was not there. He was at home repairing his bathroom door. That's what my sister told me," Mr Khan said of the afternoon before his departure. It was Mrs Khanum who told her husband of the result of the Anwar court case.
Police have questioned Mrs Khanum about four times since the plane went missing and have taken his homemade flight simulator from the house for examination and say it contains "nothing sinister".
Mr Khan says Capt Zaharie had stopped using the simulator about a year ago because it was corrupted and his wife had urged him to pack it away to make space in the house. He was proud of the simulator and it was no secret that had it in his home, even posting YouTube videos of it on the web.
