A police officer has told the court Baden-Clay told him his wife had just $20 in her bank account and they were "on the bones of their arse" the day she went missing.
The former Brookfield real estate agent, 43, has pleaded not guilty in the Brisbane Supreme Court to murdering Allison Baden-Clay, 43, on April 19, 2012.
A jury yesterday heard the first contact Baden-Clay made with police on the day he reported his wife missing, telling them she never returned from a morning walk and explaining the three "jagged" scratches on his cheek as a shaving mishap.
The court was told Baden-Clay briefly spoke to Constable Liam Braunberger (below) as he compiled a missing persons report at the Indooroopilly Police Station on April 20.

Constable Braunberger said the accused told him his wife banked with Suncorp at Kenmore but had just $20.
"He made a statement they were on the bones of their arse," Constable Braunberger said.
In cross-examination by barrister Michael Byrne QC, for Baden-Clay, Constable Braunberger agreed his conversation with the accused was not recorded and he did not take notes. But when Mr Byrne challenged him, he was adamant Baden-Clay made the comment.
"That's the one thing that stands out in my mind to this day from the whole conversation," he said.
The jury heard a recording of Baden-Clay's triple-0 call to police at 7.15am the day his wife went missing. In it, he is heard to say his wife was not home and he did not know where she was. He says he last saw his wife the night before and that it was not unusual for her to walk in the morning despite her plan to leave for the city by 7am.
Constable Kieron Ash said he arrived at the Baden-Clays' home at 7.30am to find the accused dressed in a business shirt with cufflinks, and scratches on his face.
