A NEW lawsuit alleges that X-Men director Bryan Singer sexually abused an underage boy at a lurid California sex party.

According to The New York Post , the bombshell suit claims the director of blockbuster hits like Superman Returns used his position in Hollywood to exploit young men by taking part in a sex ring.

The lawsuit, filed by attorney Jeff Herman, charges that Singer attended parties at a mansion in Encino, California, where adult males did drugs and had sex with teenage boys.

It was at one of these parties, thrown by registered sex offender Marc Collins-Rector, that Singer was introduced to a 14- or 15-year-old Michael Egan, The Daily Mail reports.

The suit alleges that Mr Egan, now 31, was nude and ordered by Collins-Rector to hug Singer in a jacuzzi. The director then proceeded to masturbate the underage boy and perform oral sex on him, it states.

When Mr Egan refused to perform oral sex on Singer, the older man took the boy out of the pool and forcibly sodomised him, Mr Egan claims.

Singer, who would have been around 33 years old at the time, also allegedly flew the young man to Hawaii for drug-fuelled sexcapades and promised him roles in an X-Men movie.

Mr Egan never consented to sexual relations with Singer and often persisted, the suit states, according to a press release from Mr Herman's law firm.

The attorney said there were more sex abuse claims against industry executives in the works.

"Hollywood has a problem with the sexual exploitation of children," he said. "This is the first of many cases I will be filing to give these victims a voice and to expose the issue."

Marty Singer, a lawyer for Bryan Singer, said the "it is obvious that this case was filed in an attempt to get publicity," ahead of the premier next month of X-Men: Days of Future Past.

"The claims made against Bryan Singer are completely without merit," the lawyer said. "We are very confident that Bryan will be vindicated in this absurd and defamatory lawsuit."
