Travelling the world on your Easter break doesn't have to mean wiping out your savings. Source: News Limited
THIS week marks the start of the Easter break.
And with just three days between Easter and Anzac weekend this year, plenty of people are taking advantage and turning it into a 10-day holiday.
In order to make the most of your holiday spending, Mozo money expert Kirsty Lamont shares her top tips that could save you more than $1000.
Pre-book airport parking: Save $116
You might have scored hotels and flights dirt cheap online, but most people completely forget how they're going to get to the airport. Ms Lamont said booking airport parking online can save you more than 70 per cent.
"For those planning to fly out of Sydney airport for the Easter break, booking your parking spot ahead of time will cost you $159 for 6 days, compared to around $275 if you were to show up and park on the day," she said.
It's even cheaper if you take the bus or train.

Compare travel insurance: Save $105
If you're heading overseas, don't just get the first travel insurance you find. Ms Lamont said a trip to New Zealand can cost a family of four anything from $45 to $105 depending on which insurer you use.
"Taking a few minutes to compare online can instantly identify a potential saving of $105. The savings get even bigger if you usually book your insurance through a travel agent which is often one of the most expensive ways to buy basic holiday cover due to the extra commissions."

Eat like a local: Save $600
Hotel minibars and restaurants can be up there with a week in Switzerland when it comes to price. While it might be convenient to eat at a hotel, paying $25 for an average buffet breakfast or a fortune for minibar snacks can leave you with much less money for holiday fun.
Instead, squeeze in a quick trip to local markets and make a couple of meals yourself.
"Of course, sometimes the convenience just can't be beaten but if you can skip even a few buffets for grocery-store bought or a local bakery breakfast you'll find you come away feeling wealthier and probably healthier too," Ms Lamont said.

Preload currency on a prepaid travel card: Save $71
Gone are the days when sightseeing meant wandering around with a money belt strapped to your waist. Now the cheapest and most secure way to spend money overseas is to use a prepaid currency card.
"With the wrong card, a handful of visits to an overseas ATM at around $4 a pop ($20) and an uncompetitive currency conversion fee (as high as 5.95 per cent) could quickly sap you $139 on a $2000 currency exchange," Ms Lamont said.
"However, a quick compare of the market for the right prepaid card with no purchase fee, $1.50 ATM charge and competitive 3 per cent conversion fee would cost you around $67 for access to your foreign cash. A quick comparison will save you $71 just for leaving home with the right plastic in your pocket."

Use built-in insurance: Save $175
You might be able to get a rental car for $30 a day but paying for insurance and to reduce the excess often means it can cost much more.
Ms Lamont said plenty of credit cards actually come with rental insurance built in to them, so always double check before you buy to make sure you're not paying for something you don't need.
