A WOMAN murdered by her ex-husband on the Central Coast in NSW before he reportedly hung himself from a nearby tree had just gone back to the couple's house to collect the last of her belongings.
Chilling details have emerged about the murder suicide after the body of the woman, 49, was discovered on the driveway of a house at Natasha Pl, Woongarrah, about 5.45pm yesterday.
The 51-year-old man's body was discovered about 50m away near the back entrance of the adjacent Central Life Christian Church.
The woman's ex-partner arrived at the scene this morning describing the mother of two adult children from a previous relationship as a charitable and dedicated mum, who until recently "had it all".
"My daughter is good friends with her daughter," the man said.
"My daughter rang me this morning and she was hysterical.
"I just cannot believe it."
The man, who declined to give his name, said the couple married about three years ago but the turbulent "on again, off again" relationship came to an end a few months ago with the woman moving to Long Jetty.
"She just came back to pick up her last few things," he said.
The woman's Toyota Corolla remained in the driveway this morning with its rear seats folded down ready to be filled with boxes after police worked late into the night examining the crime scene.
Ballistics experts were also called in to assist in the investigation but police are not disclosing whether a firearm was involved.
A real estate agent arrived earlier to take down a for sale sign on the property.
"He was pretty down about (the separation)," the woman's former partner said.
"I was talking to (him) the other day and he was telling me 'as soon as this place is sold I'm going to make a fresh start somewhere else'."
The ex-partner, who remained friends with both of the deceased, said after a few hard times the woman, a secretary for a local shower and wardrobe business, finally "had it all".
"She'd tell me, 'I've got the nice house, a nice car, a nice bloke and the nice pool, the nice spa, everything I ever wanted'," he said.
"Now look at what's happened, it's a f...ing tragedy."
Tuggerah Lakes duty officer Inspector Chris Wellfare said post-mortems would be conducted, possibly as early as today, to determine the cause of the deaths.
A member of the public made the gruesome discovery before phoning police and Insp Welfare has urged anyone else who may have seen anything prior to the incident to contact Crimestoppers.
A report will be prepared for the coroner.
