The third kidnap victim Michele Knight is back in hospital after she was earlier discharged

When Michele Knight disappeared in Cleveland in August 2002, authorities made little fuss in comparison to Amanda Berry and Gina DeJesus, dubbed by local press as "two of Cleveland's most famous missing persons".

While the latter pair's disappearances were deemed suspicious by police, it was thought Knight had run away because she was disgruntled her son had been removed from her custody. This may be the reason why she was not listed as a Missing Person by the state of Ohio. 

Knight was last seen at her cousin's house in West Cleveland just a couple of blocks away from where Berry and DeJesus vanished in 2003 and 2004.

Her age is still unclear, yet reports claim she was between the age of 18-21 when she disappeared. 

"Shorty", as she was known to friends and family, was a legal adult at the time of disappearance and it is likely this led to a short-lived investigation into her disappearance.

According to local newspaper The Plain Dealer, Knight's missing persons report is "brief" and claims Knight suffers from a "mental condition" and "frequently was confused by her surroundings".

Her grandmother, Deborah Knight, said her granddaughter had a close relationship with her mother, Barbara Knight, who was left to post missing persons flyers throughout Cleveland's west side by herself long after police halted their search.

Barbara Knight said she "never believed that her daughter would disappear without a trace, without so much as an occasional phone call".

Even after she moved to Miami, she would occasionally return to the area and search on her own.

Barbara has described her daughter as a popular girl at school, with a talent for drawing and love of animals.

It was at age 17 that trouble brewed, after Michele claimed to be the victim of an assault at school. She reported the incident to police but soon after, fell pregnant and dropped out.

Barbara gave police a photo of Michele when filing her missing persons report and is "disheartened" it hasn't received the attention seen by DeJesus and Berry.

The photo remains unreleased.

"She was my daughter, but she was also my friend," Knight said.

"She tried to make the best of her life and wanted to finish school. She never got the chance to go back. 

"I'm praying… I can help her recover from what she has been through. So much has happened in these ten years. She has a younger sister she still has not met. I missed her so much while she was gone."
