HER signature sneakers will finally hit Australian soil today but Ellen DeGeneres has already been treated to a hero's welcome aboard a Qantas jet renamed in her honour.
Still looking poorly after being felled by a nasty bout of flu last week, the US chat show queen scored first-class treatment - and then some - during her flight to Sydney overnight.
The airline renamed the A380 "the Ellen DeGeneres Show Express" and stocked the galley with the star's favourite bakery treats from LA so DeGeneres, wife Portia, mother Betty and a posse of producers could pass the 14-hour flight in personalised style.
If the Marc Newson-designed first class airbeds weren't flash enough, monogrammed linen - branded with Ellen's logo - were laid on for the Emmy winner. Celebrity chef Neil Perry customised a special menu for the vegan star, who will spend the next five frantic days meeting fans in Sydney and Melbourne.
Upon her arrival this morning - scheduled for 8.30am - there will be no slinking off and creeping through a secure private exit reserved for visiting VIPs. Team Ellen plans to sweep through the regular immigration entrance, which could prove a headache for Sydney Airport security officials charged with containing the expected crush.
About 1000 fans are expected to descend on the airport to catch the first glimpse of DeGeneres Down Under. The scene will be at odds with the arrival of Oprah Winfrey, who in 2010 flew in by private jet unnoticed.
"Unless there is a public issue we will be making a regular exit," an airport spokeswoman confirmed.
Security has been significantly escalated for crowd control, with up to 10 extra guards joining DeGeneres' own personal security detail, which is travelling with her.
Fans will have to be quick, however, with just 15 minutes from the moment she steps off the aircraft to getting into a waiting car.
Despite delays in her visit and the abbreviated itinerary, Qantas boss Alan Joyce remains confident the tour will boost Australian tourism.
"The exposure so far, the coverage from this visit and the segments filmed in Australia to be screened as part of the show (in April) is priceless for the tourism industry," he said.
Degeneres' first day is expected to be low-key, allowing the star to shake off jet leg before announcing on Twitter (@TheEllenShow), the plans for her public activities in Sydney over this weekend.
