BIN what you think you know about Marco Pierre White.

The shouty chef is all that in the kitchen, but step into his world outside and it's charm, charm, charm not quail, quail, quail you get served.

This is the real man behind MasterChef: The Professionals and why he demanded respect from those radio jokers at Austereo.

When White walked out on an interview with Triple M Adelaide's breakfast crew this week, after co-host Dale "Louie" Lewis called him a "rude prick" and teased him about his three failed marriages, the Michelin-star chef earned himself thousands of new fans for his mannered stand and slapdown.

Fresh from the global bad press it garnered for the royal radio prank, Austereo was shamed into pulling their offensive exchange with him from air yesterday, but only after News Limited confirmed the clash and leaked the audio.

Despite using the controversial chat to promote the SA radio show, management was forced to rethink airing it and only allowed the team of Lewis, Ali Carle, Warren Tredrea and Jon "Blakey" Blake to chat about the fallout, without playing the pre-recorded clip.

In a positive sign for listeners, it is understood content directors across each state of the national network were scheduled to meet yesterday to discuss their latest stunt gone wrong.

But the damage has been done, with White fans flooding News Limited websites to congratulate the British star for his cool carve-up.

More than 200,000 people downloaded the audio and the story was the most-read article on national site news.com.au.

White, who was humbled by the overwhelming response, may have the reputation for being a kitchen hot head before quitting the burners aged 37, but he continues to demand respect for his considerable success, including making history as the first British chef to earn three Michelin stars.

"Most of my reputaton is the product of exaggeration and ignorance," White said, during a recent interview on the MasterChef Melbourne set.

"If you ever saw me do Hell's Kitchen, you'll see no swearing, you'll see no belittlement. What you'd see is someone who's very firm, very focused and there to do a job, getting the food out to a very high standard, consistently. You don't get that by saying `Holly, when you've got two minutes, I'll have two salmon,' or `Charlotte, when you've got a moment I'll have the lamb for table four.'

Now presiding over a multimillion-dollar international food empire, he maintains the intensity, mixed with civility.

Quoting his late mother often, White lives by the adage: "Success is born out of arrogance, but greatness comes from humility."

HOT AND BOTHERED: Marco fans roast Austereo

Well done Marco, handled like a gentleman. Please don't think all Australians are as rude or disrespectful as these fools, and please don't let it deter you from visiting Australia. You are most welcome here.

Michael Kimhouse of Brisvegas

ALL of the Austereo hosts are an embarrassment to Australia. I cringe every time I read something like this. Sure, you can be funny, but theses fools are not  they are just plain stupid and have the mentality of an adolescent.

Peter Holmes of Mackay

Marco is totally spot on. Real humour is not being making crude and ignorant and insulting statements. there is nothing funny about that, its just rudeness masquerading as a `bit of fun.' Radio needs to pick up its act or get left behind

Paul of Maryborough

Marco, I'm 100% behind you. You handled yourself with grace. I too was offended by what Lewis said. They just don't learn.

Michael Williams of Balmain

Good for you Marco Pierre White! It is about time, someone told these rude radio show hosts that rudeness, crudeness and behaving badly for the sake of ratings is just not acceptable

Jem of Castle Hill

The MMM hosts are getting ruder and ruder in a vain attempt to up their ratings. No-one should put up with that. Good on him for walking out.

Disappointed Dennis of Adelaide

I totally agree with Marco! Comments like that are totally uncalled for. There are too many so called ``Shock Jocks'' in radio today & they carry things way too far. They should all be sacked.

Country Girl of Eden Valley S.A.

Good on him for saying something, this radio station keeps making the same mistakes but seems to still be on air, I'm on Marco's side. Radio stations can still be entertaining without being rude or making fun of others to get a cheap laugh. I refuse to listen to anything that comes from this radio station

Justin of Adelaide

Good on you Marco! Fair is fair and you did not show any disrespect at all. I will now see you in a better light and I am so looking forward to seeing the new Masterchief. You are a tough but fair gentleman.

Jeanie Mac of Melbourne

GOOD ON YOU MARCO!!! Radio ``stars'' who get their jollies from belittling others are pathetic. If that's the best they can drag up they shouldn't be on air. Marco is well-travelled, intelligent, articulate and entertaining. Pity the radio station couldn't equal that.

Sheridan of Melbourne
