FAMILY and friends are praying two young children will not be robbed of their devoted parents by a bizarre holiday crash police say should never have happened.
Ipswich mum Tammy Boyce, who is believed to be 30 weeks' pregnant, and her partner Nathan Boorer are fighting for their lives in Nambour Hospital.
The 28-year-olds are in a critical condition after emergency surgery following Wednesday's night's accident at Kulangoor on the Sunshine Coast.
With their nine-year-old son and five-year-old daughter, they were heading north to Hervey Bay when their Nissan Pulsar - packed with pillows, sleeping bags, children's scooters and an Esky - was struck head-on by a car travelling on the wrong side of the Bruce Highway.
They were then hit from the rear by a semi-trailer.

Reports from other motorists suggested the gold Subaru Liberty that caused the crash was involved in a number of "near misses" over several kilometres.
The driver of that vehicle, a 54-year-old man from Rosemount, was killed instantly and his 50-year-old male passenger was injured.
It is believed the driver and his passenger, who is in a stable condition at Nambour Hospital, are both known to police.
The Flinders View couple's children are in a stable condition, comforted by their grandmother.
It is uncertain whether the parents will survive.
They have been described by their next-door neighbour Greg Knights as "genuine, hard-working and family-oriented people".
"They are very nice, very quiet people. They are not party people. They work hard, their kids are always well-dressed. They are only young so they're having a fair crack at life," Mr Knights said.
"The kids looked after our animals when we went away for a week or so."
Sunshine Coast Police Superintendent Terry Borland said the circumstances surrounding the crash were under investigation by the forensic crash unit.
Supt Borland said early indications were that the vehicle travelling in the wrong direction - south in northbound lanes - had caused the "initial impact".
He said the family's vehicle had been travelling in the right direction.
"It's a terrible, terrible incident that should never have happened," he said.
